Welcome to the 31st Croydon (2nd Shirley) Scout Group

collage

We provide Scouting to boys and girls from 6 to 14 years old. We currently have :-

Two Beaver Scout Colonies that meet on Wednesdays and Thursdays - ages 6 - 8

One Cub Scout Pack that meets on Wednesdays (after Beavers) - ages 8 - 10.5

And one Scout Troop that meets on a Monday - ages 10.5 - 14 (although they can stay until they reach 15 years).

All sections go camping at least once a year and we offer various adventurous activites, either run by ourselves or by qualified Scout Association Instructors. The Beavers stay in indoor accomodation provided at Scout Association camp sites. Cubs and Scouts sleep under canvas.

We are based in our own HQ at St Georges Church, The Glade, Shirley. Usually on the second Sunday of each month we take part in a "Uniform Parade Service" in which the Scout Group and Guide Group attend the 10am Service which is tailored for children.

All the sections currently have vacancies and taking part in Scouting can lead to a life time of fun and adventure. Beyond the 31st Croydon for young adults there is the Explorer Scouts and eventually Leadership. Explorer Scouts are District based and offer lots more adventurous activities and expeditions.

Leaders - we also need more Leaders / adult helpers, especially for the Scout Troop. Were you once a Cub or Scout - remember the fun you used to have. Well it doesn't stop when you become a Leader. It's harder work, but the enjoyment and satisfaction of seeing the kids thoroughly enjoying themselves more than makes up for the effort involved!
