St George The Martyr Church, Shirley

"St. Georges seeks to be a safe and accepting place to journey with God"

Donations

Keeping the Church running every year requires a fair bit of money. As well as the usual utility bills and taxes, all Church Of England Churches have to pay a "quota" - a sizeable sum paid to the CofE which provides Clergy wages, pensions, upkeep of other Church buildings and so on. It is no exaggeration to say that St Georges just about "breaks even" each year.

On top of this, last year the Church suffered serious thefts of lead from its roof, which cost a small fortune to repair, even after the insurance payout. Then during a building inspection it was discovered that the tower butresses were falling away! Repairs have left St Georges in a fairly difficult financial position and we are appealing for donations to help.

We do a lot of fundraising ourselves, with a number of fetes, fairs, musical evenings, gift days etc, and we have created a new "fund raising committee" to help boost funds over the next couple of years to try and make up the shortfall - but any donations, large or small, would be greatly appreciated.

Please help by using the donation link to the right. This will take you to PayPal and then just follow the instructions.

Many, many thanks for your help and to all those who have donated.
